A report issued by the UN (WHO), ranked Chile 168th in matters of medical infrastructure. The study, that considered 191 countries, ranked Chile under the Congo and Uzbekistan. Chile has excellent private healthcare services. But when healthcare services are compared from the perspective of cost, the conclusion is that the poor, with their meager income, have virtually no possibility of obtaining healthcare services of an acceptable quality.
In view of this and with the cooperation of Family Care Foundation and other organizations, FEDES secures donations of medical equipment and supplies for hospitals or other such institutions that attend the healthcare needs of the lower income bracket population.
Distribution of medical equipment by means of donations secured through foundations operating out of the US and Canada, is carried out in a joint effort with private and public organizations, as shipping them to Chile is a high-cost operation. |
