The objective of the Vocational School is to help counteract the prevalence of poverty-stricken teenage & young adult population living in fringe situations, which are characterized by difficulties to obtain employment, blind alley employment, & most of all, lack of conceptual, social & technical “tools” that enable them to break the cycle of poverty.

In addition to the previous group, there are an increasing number of adults, particularly women under 59 whom, having lost their jobs and income, are at a severe disadvantage when seeking new ones. We aim to bring a solution through hands-on vocational training, combined with entrepreneurial and job skills development classes.

The main strength of our model is the affection and quality of interaction between people. An environment in which people are respected and valued regardless of their condition, where love for fellow men and women is promoted and people are encouraged to grow and develop is essential in the empowerment process. Therefore, restoring human dignity and helping our students recognize their own and others inner value is a key element of our school. Something as simple as receiving a certificate and bouquet of flowers at the end of a course may sound rather ordinary, but to a woman raised in poverty who was unable to finish high school and may have never been given flowers in her life, it is a expression validating her accomplishments and inner worth. It is this standard of service, going beyond simple instruction in job skills to address the whole person, which FEDES constantly strives for.

Support and follow-up model

The Vocational Training School expends considerable effort in monitoring the progress of its graduates. This allows us to provide support to entrepreneurial projects and help our graduates find jobs.  It also gives us the most up-to-date information possible to redesign our training model in accordance with the feedback we receive.

The FEDES Foundation Vocational Training School was founded in October 2002 and was inaugurated in November the same year. It was recently moved to a new complex which was renovated to fit our needs at J.J. Prieto in the municipality of Lo Espejo.
