Medical Aid

medical_aid01
Public hospitals and health care centers in Chile, particularly in low-income or marginalized areas, are often seriously under-resourced, lacking the hospital beds, stretchers, and equipment to provide quality services.

Although Chile has excellent private health care services for the affluent minority, many of the people in these low-income areas live for years with painful, debilitating medical conditions that could easily be resolved with a simple operation or medical treatment. Others lose limbs or succumb to vision-loss as a result of diabetes or other preventable and treatable diseases because medical care for the prevention and early detection of these conditions is not readily available.

Through working with international organizations such as Globus Relief, Direct Relief, and Vida USA, FEDES has been able to support public health services in many regions of the country through medical aid in equipment and supplies increasing both capacity and efficiency of care. The total value of these donations since 2001 is estimated to be at least $30,000,000.
All medication is distributed through the Ministry of Health in accordance with government procedures.
