Nurses Aides and Elderly Care Program

This branch of vocational studies includes courses to train nurse’s aides, those who care for the elderly, as well as care for the ill and infirm. The courses provide training for employment in a senior citizen’s retirement center, hospice, or personal residence. Subjects covered include the following: nutrition, administration of medication, basic first aid, safety and hygiene, and other comfort and care practices.
Due to Chile’s large aging population, there is a dramatically increased demand for these skill sets in order to care for this demographic. Thus FEDES graduates from this course have achieved the highest employment rate of the vocational school’s graduates.
According to Chile’s national census CASEN 2012, Chile’s population of senior citizens has doubled in the past decade, which combined with dropping birth rates, clearly denotes an aging population trend. In fact, government estimates show that by the year 2025 there will be more older adults than minors under 15 years old. This creates increasing demand for skill sets to care for the elderly demographic.
Thus, FEDES graduates from this course, who receive certification under the Ministry of Labor, have access to strong labor market and high employment rates.
