Building healthy, productive, and safe communities is a team effort.
Recent studies indicate that the many aspects involved in  combating poverty and
sustaining community development are most effectively addressed through the
collaboration of local government, concerned citizens, NGOs, and private businesses
in order to create lasting change.

Lo Espejo and San Bernardo are urban districts whose inhabitants share some of the highest indicators of vulnerability and lack of opportunity in the capital city, Santiago.

FEDES has taken on the sizeable challenge of effecting long-lasting, fundamental changes in these communities by improving the lives of the most vulnerable: the disabled, poor, and those plagued by long term unemployment. Current focuses include providing positive solutions to address issues related to job skills training, public education, primary health care and disability, among others. As a pilot project, FEDES has established an alliance with the Municipalities of Lo Espejo and San Bernardo.  Local government and other authorities have also adopted this vision and are strengthening their commitment to it. We also invite other NGOs, private companies, and all those who want to try this new, exciting model to join us.
